One of the colour-ringed Coot from the study has been seen in Iceland, the first time a BTO ringed bird of this species has been seen in the country.
Coot ‘IXX’ was seen on 17th April 2022 on the outskirts of Reykjavik, and found by Þórir Þórisson. His photo is shown above – a BIG thank you for sharing the sighting and photo with us.
The bird was ringed by Andy Rickeard at Killingworth Lake, North Tyneside in December 2020, and was last seen there in February 2022. It is always amazing to discover how far these birds can travel!
